How We Help...
Food Pantry ...The Council of Churches co-sponsors the Schuylkill Haven Food Pantry located behind the Evans Delivery building on Market Street between Parkway and St. Charles. Alternately , federal/state and local food contributions are distributed on the third Friday of each month from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm to families or individuals who meet eligibility. Volunteers are always welcome to assist with the shelving and distribution of food items. Donated grocery items can be dropped off at any of the member churches or at the site Monday mornings from 8:30 am to 10:30.a.m.
Blood Bank...Supported in conjunction with the Red Cross, a blood bank drive is held locally six to eight times a year from noon to 6:00 p.m. An information flyer with upcoming Blood Drive dates can usually be found posted in the lobby of the Schuylkill Haven Post Office. Currently, Jerusalem Lutheran Church 252 Dock Street serves as the donor site. The Council of Churches and Hess Catering provide food for the medical workers and volunteers prior to the beginning of each drive. You can help by volunteering as a walker or snack server for the donors. If you are 17 years of age or older and are at least 100 pounds in weight we encourage you to think about blood donation. YOU might save a life!
Emergency Assistance… As council funds permit, heat and utilities aid is available and can be provided on a one time basis to any local family or individual faced with a crisis or tragedy who are unable to make payment. Contact information to secure an application may be accessed from any affiliated church pastor or at Schuylkill Haven Borough Hall. Likewise, pass through travelers incurring an emergency may inquire from the Schuylkill Haven or Pennsylvania State Police about overnight lodging and food.
